Minnesota Keystone Program

The Minnesota Keystone Program recognizes companies that donate at least two percent of their pre-tax earnings to the community. In 1976, 23 Minnesota companies started this program (originally called the 5% Club) to recognize charitable giving and to set an example for other Minnesota companies. Minnesota Keystone Program participants promise to sustain Minnesota’s spirit of generosity and sense of community.

The Minnesota Keystone Program fulfills its mission by:

  • Attaining recognition from peers and community
  • Institutionalizing and leveraging a culture of community involvement and corporate giving
  • Promoting standards for corporate giving through a percent-giving formula
  • Serving as a referral/mentoring program
  • Offering an education/resource sharing forum

Does my company qualify?

Any company or professional association with an operating presence in Minnesota qualifies. Qualifying calculations (based on previous year’s giving) may include any combination of contributions to 501(c)3 organizations:

  • Cash contributions (including securities and real estate)
  • In-kind donations (products or services)
  • Employee volunteerism (during normal business hours)

A Giving Level Worksheet is available to help determine if a company qualifies.

How does my company get recognized?

Minnesota Keystone Program participants are leaders in the community and in their industries. They set an example that motivates other companies to participate. Keystone participants are recognized throughout the year through efforts such as:

  • Company name listed on the Keystone website
  • Keystone participants recognized at annual recognition luncheon each year

How much does it cost to join?

  •    It’s free!

How do I sign up?

How do I become an honored company?

Each year, three companies are chosen from the ranks of Minnesota Keystone members to be honored for their exceptional giving programs. One honoree is chosen from each of three categories based on business size: small, medium, and large. Honored companies are selected by a committee of volunteers who evaluate submissions and consider the breadth of each applicants giving programs, including contribution amounts, non-profit partner engagement, community impact, and employee engagement.

Eligible Minnesota Keystone companies have participated in the Minnesota Keystone Program for at least five years.  Companies previously recognized as an Honored Company may apply again if they have not won within the past five years.

Minnesota Keystone Luncheon

This annual event celebrates Minnesota’s tradition of corporate social responsibility, philanthropic giving and the strong tradition of corporate giving. The program also recognizes three Minnesota Keystone companies in the small-, mid-, and large-sized categories for their innovations in giving.

The 2025 Minnesota Keystone Celebration will be taking place on December 11th.
